Location and Premises

Sunnyside Surgery is a friendly 6 GP Practice in the coastal town of Penzance in West Cornwall .  We serve almost 6300 patients from a wide variety of social backgrounds.  The Partners practice from a  purpose built premises which is shared with 2 other practices at St Clare Medical Centre.  Sunnyside has 9 allocated consulting rooms all of which are well equipped.   There is also a pharmacy on site run by Day Lewis.

Patient Services

We aim to provide a high standard of acute care, chronic disease management and health promotion.    We operate an appointment system for all clinical staff offering 10 minute appointments and telephone consultations.  Chronic disease management clinics are run by the Practice Nurse.  We also offer contraceptive services,  Minor Surgery,  NHS Travel Vaccination and Warfarin testing and a range of Enhanced and Local services. 

 

Surgery opening hours are 8.30am - 6.30pm Monday, to  Friday

3Tuesdays we provide extended opening hours for our patients when we open until 8.00pm

 

Sunnyside does not cover out-of –hours, the contract for this is with NHS111.

   

Staff

The partners have a full compliment of support staff to include:

2 Minor Illness Practitioners

2 Salaried GP

2 Practice Nurses (1.7 WTE)

2 Phelbotomists

1 Assistant Practitioner

Practice Manager

Finance Manager

2 Secretaries (1WTE)

Readcoder/Summariser

2 Senior Administration Staff

8 Receptionists

   

In addition the Practice has the support of District Nurses, Community Midwives, Community Matron, Health Visitor and Community Psychiatric Nurse.

 

We run regular weekly meetings alternating between partnership meetings, where just Partners and the Practice Manager attends and clinical meetings to include all clinical staff and attached staff when required.

 

Medical Student Training

The Practice is committed to undergraduate teaching with six students from Years 2-4  and a GP Registrar from the Peninsula Medical School 

    

Information Technology

We currently run the EMIS clinical system on a network operating approximately 25 PC terminals, all of which are linked to the NHS net.  All patient information is stored on computer with approximately 80% of the medical records being summarised.
