Contact Us Online

Our New Appointment System

Why change?

The aim of the changes is to make it easier for patients to contact us regarding medical issues, reduce queues on the phones, and stop the “8am rush”.

How does it work?

We will ask all patients who can to contact us via the form on our website, regardless of whether you feel the matter is urgent or routine. Once you’ve made your query, you will be sent some additional questions to answer about your condition. These answers will go to a GP, who will assess your case and provide the best outcome – this may be self-care advice, a prescription, or an appointment with the best member of the team to help you – this may not be a GP.

We have a range of medically-qualified experts available to help – Community Pharmacists, Physiotherapists, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Paramedics, Physician Associate. This means our GPs are available to support with the most complex queries in a more timely fashion.

Those who cannot access the internet will always be able to phone us – our team will be happy to help. They will go through the relevant questions with you on the phone. All the answers are still dealt with by a GP so you do not gain or lose priority by contacting us this way.

In Summary

  • Step One: Contact the practice via our website or phone to let us know about your medical issue.
  • Step Two: You will be sent a short questionnaire which usually takes less than 5 minutes to complete. Please complete this as quickly as possible so the GP can assess your case.
  • Step Three: Your answers are reviewed by a GP who will determine the best course of action – appointment, prescription or advice.

Welcome to Alvanley Family Practice

Alvanley SurgeryWe are an award-winning, person-centred, evidence-based practice, located in Woodley, Greater Manchester. Our novel, collaborative and forward-thinking social prescribing methodology has gained international recognition amongst healthcare professionals, being dubbed 'The Alvanley Way'.

Our practice philosophy takes a strengths-based approach to healthcare and wellness. Rather than asking what's the matter with our patients, we ask what matters to them. Our passions, our strengths and our values give us meaning, and directly affect our wellbeing. We believe that incorporating these considerations into our prescribing is an integral part of effective, sustainable healthcare, in which the individual can take a greater degree of ownership over their health, and develop a deeper sense of self-esteem and self-reliance.

We are community-focused, priding ourselves on our work with our Practice Champions - a team of volunteers who lead our Patient Participation Group (PPG), which meets regularly to discuss ways in which we can further strengthen and diversify our social prescribing initiatives. Some of our existing initiatives - developed in collaboration with our Practice Champions - include a practice allotment, community walks, parent pram pushers, and a patient sing-along group. These initiatives have been immensely popular amongst our patients and form an invaluable part of our social prescribing. You can learn more about our Practice Champions and the work that they do by clicking here.

Our doctors and nurses take great pride in offering the highest standard of person-centred healthcare. We run numerous clinics for chronic disease care and offer a wide variety of other medical services, such as antenatal and postnatal care, minor surgery, childhood vaccinations and well-person check-ups.  We are an LGBT Foundation Pride in Practice Gold Practice https://lgbt.foundation/how-we-can-help-you/pride-in-practice

In addition to everything that you need to know about the practice, you will also find a wealth of health-related information in the menu at the top of the page. Please have a look around and do send us any feedback that you may have.

We have an active Facebook group, which we would encourage you to join in order to keep up-to-date with our latest news and updates. You can also follow us on our Twitter and Instagram pages, as well as our YouTube channel.

If you have any questions or concerns or are unsure as to whether you require an appointment, we have a new online triage system that you can use to help you determine this, which can be accessed by clicking here. This will help to ensure that you see the right person for your query and save you making an unnecessary trip to the practice.
