COVID-19 Vaccine Supply

Despite recent media coverage outlining a national supply issue, everyone in Cheshire West who has already had their first dose COVID vaccine will be offered their second dose within 12 weeks. Available vaccine supply is being prioritised for this purpose.

Most vaccination services in Cheshire West started vaccinating patients in early January and it has been determined nationally that second doses should be offered as close to week eleven as possible, following first dose.

Clinics are carefully planned around confirmed vaccination delivery dates in order to minimise disruption to patients. When confirmation of the delivery date for second dose vaccines has been received your GP practice will contact you to arrange your second dose appointment.

An Update from The Partners at High Street:

Things are moving very quickly in relation to the predicted surge of the Omicron variant and we want to share with you as much information as possible. We are now in a position where the government has declared a Level 4 National Incident.

In view of this there are two updates. The first regarding the position following the Prime Ministers speech, and what that means for access to General Practice, the second an update regarding booking COVID boosters.

  • Following guidance from the PM’s speech and NHS England we are being asked to pause routine and non-urgent care to redeploy staff to support the delivery of COVID-19 vaccinations. All General practice teams have been asked to clinically prioritise services and to deliver only urgent or emergency care and other critical services such as cancer care.
  • Although this announcement has been made there has been very little specific guidance issued about what this means in practice
  • The aim of this central advice is to allow Primary Care Teams to concentrate on urgent care in the very short term, alongside delivering the vaccine programme. It is important that if you feel your need is urgent that you continue to contact us. Please do not attend Accident and Emergency because you feel you cannot contact us. If you have any symptoms which you are concerned about, which you feel may be related to cancer please continue to contact us.
  • If you have any doubt, please contact us and we can offer advice about whether your problem can safely wait.
  • This is not a position we would choose to be in. However, it is very clear that we are now in a national emergency situation. We want to fully play our part in contributing to the ongoing delivery of the COVID booster campaign, alongside continuing to provide safe and effective care to our patient population. As always thank you for your patience and understanding at this extremely busy time.

With regard to the COVID booster programme.

  •  We will be putting on additional clinics in the week before Christmas with a view to vaccinating over 3000 people, as long as we continue to receive an adequate supply of vaccine.
  • All boosters will be either Pfizer – we will have no choice and will only be able to offer whichever vaccine has been delivered for that clinic
  •  At this time we are not able to offer walk in vaccinations. We have to carefully match the stock supply with invitations. PLEASE DO NOT TURN UP WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT.

Our doctors, nurses and all our other staff are dedicated to offering a professional service. This surgery website helps us to keep our patients up- to-date with news and information about our practice. 

As a practice we value your healthcare.  We are great believers in preventative medicine and place a lot of importance on monitoring your long-term conditions.  We are a smallish practice with 6000 patients and believe that with our three GPs and two practice nurses we offer a superb service. We also have our own in-house physiotherapy service - you can book appointments for this by phoning reception. As well as being a source of information about our practice, the staff and the services we provide, we hope you will use this website as a useful resource for other health-related information.

Flu Clinics 2020 during the Covid-19 Pandemic –

 

FOR PATIENTS AGED UNDER 65 WITH A LONG TERM HEALTH CONDITION WE WILL BE HOLDING A CLINIC ON SATURDAY 12TH SEPTEMBER 2020.

  

The surgery purchases flu vaccines on your behalf so please have your vaccine with us. GP surgeries run like businesses and in order to survive, the flu vaccine programme helps generate income by meeting NHS England targets. If that money goes elsewhere, surgeries struggle to survive and can no longer offer the service. When we vaccinate you against flu we also obtain vital data that is necessary for your medical record and care. If you choose to go elsewhere for your vaccine such as a pharmacy or supermarket, we cannot guarantee that we will gather this information. We work fast and are practised in vaccinating you, informing you of updates required and gathering data so this does not take long. This saves all of us a lot of additional work and crucially, also saves on valuable appointments.

We will also advise you at the same time if you are eligible to be vaccinated against shingles, and/or pneumonia and can offer to do this at the same time.

And finally, we also check if you are overdue a review for areas such as your blood pressure, medication, asthma, diabetes etc.

If you are eligible for the free flu vaccine, please book your vaccine at the surgery and help us gather your data and ensure your health is up to date all in one appointment. Have your flu vaccine in an environment that you know, with clinicians and staff you know and where we have your FULL medical records immediately to hand.

 

Mythbusters:

 

· We have not asked ANY pharmacy or supermarket to give you the flu vaccine on our behalf or gather vital medical updates. We do prefer to do this ourselves please.

· You are NOT doing us a favour, or saving us time by having your flu vaccine somewhere else.

· The pharmacies and supermarkets are NOT doing us a favour by giving you the vaccine.

· Pharmacies and supermarkets do not have access to your FULL medical record/history or know you as well as we do.

 

Important: please read this article in full before you book an appointment.

 

An appointment is required for ALL clinics.  We do not offer a walk in clinic.  For our Saturday clinics, you will be given a 5 minute vaccine window time with several other patients as we have up to 5 staff vaccinating at the same time who can vaccinate 12-15 patients within these time frames, allowing for socially distancing.  PLEASE DO NOT ARRIVE BEFORE YOUR ALLOTED TIME.  We often find patients ignore their appointment time and arrive early because of shopping, a day out or because another family member had an earlier appointment. This year due to the constraints of socially distancing we are unable to allow you access into the building if you arrive earlier than your appointment time.

The Saturday morning clinics are very fast moving clinics. Patients arrive, walk straight through preferably with their arm ready with no need to close doors and undress, are vaccinated and leave.  We do not deal with any general queries during Saturday flu clinics, but we will take the opportunity to check your blood pressure, remind you of any other routine tests or medication, health reviews you are due or even outstanding. 

 

Reminders are issued to those eligible for the free vaccine by way of the very successful text message system and email system notifications.  We do not issue postal letters to eligible patients due to high numbers and the costs implications involved. Therefore if you are an eligible patient, or are a carer for an eligible patient, we recommend you provide us with either a mobile number or email address.  You do not have to wait until you receive a reminder to book your appointment, if you know you qualify.  However please be aware that you will be asked by our reception team to briefly state why you are eligible.

ARE YOU ELIGIBLE:

The following are eligible for flu vaccination:

All patients aged 65 and over are automatically eligible for the free flu vaccine – LOOK OUT FOR FURTHER DATES OF CLINICS SPECIFICALLY FOR YOUR AGE GROUP.

At Risk Categories: Patients aged from 6 months to 64 years of age with a serious medical condition such as:

· chronic (long-term) respiratory disease, such as severe asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or bronchitis

· chronic heart disease, such as heart failure

· chronic kidney disease at stage three, four or five

· chronic liver disease

· chronic neurological disease, such as Parkinson’s disease or motor neurone disease, or learning disability

· diabetes

· splenic dysfunction or asplenia

· a weakened immune system due to disease (such as HIV/AIDS) or treatment  (such as cancer treatment)

· morbidly obese (defined as BMI of 40 and above)

· All pregnant women 

· Frontline Health & Social Workers

The NHS in Cheshire and Public Health England (PHE) are extremely well prepared for outbreaks of new infectious diseases. The NHS has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and NHS staff while also ensuring services are available to the public as normal.

Everyone is being reminded to follow Public Health England advice to:

Always carry tissues with you and use them to catch your cough or sneeze. Then bin the tissue, and wash your hands, or use a sanitiser gel.
Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after using public transport. Use a sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are unwell.

These appointments are available to any registered patients from any practice within the boundaries of South Cheshire and Vale Royal.

The practice is located on the ground floor of the building and has disabled car parking and disabled access and toilets.

Monday - Friday 8:00am - 6:30pm

SOME Saturday morning surgeries will also run monthly, please ask Reception for available dates.

Extended Opening Hours: Monday Evenings 6.30pm to 7.30pm 

Half Day Closure Dates for Training:

The practice will be closed from 1pm until 5pm on the following dates:

Due to the current situation regarding COVID-19 the practice will not be having any training days.
