Covid-19 News and Information - updated 18th February 2021

Once you have had your vaccine, please let us know what you think. Click here to complete a short survey.

The government has identified a new group of people as needing to Shield. We are still waiting for advice from NHS England about who has been added and for what clinical reason.

PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE PRACTICE about this as we are not able to offer any further information or offer a vaccine until this guidance is released.

If you have received an email or letter from the government adding you to this list it could be because you have obesity, lung conditions, heart problems or on a particular medication which make you at a greater risk if you get covid.
Our advice would be to talk to your employers about how you can manage to work safely while shielding.

Covid Vaccination Programme

We are delighted that delivery of the covid vaccination programme in Werneth is moving on a pace.

GP surgeries have now been directed to move to our 16-64 age group who are at risk and this week we will start inviting these patients to our vaccination hub in Bredbury Medical Centre. If you are aged 65-70 you should now be receiving a letter inviting you to book your covid vaccination at a mass vaccination site. If you are in this age group and you haven't had a letter yet, you can ring 119 to book your vaccine.

We hope to be able to invite any patients that have been missed or haven't been able to get to a mass site when we have finished vaccinating this group.

Please note that our reception team are unable to answer questions about the covid vaccines or your position on the list. The number of calls we are getting means that people who need us can't get through. You will be invited for a covid vaccination based on criteria set by the government. For more information visit If you haven't had your vaccination yet, please be patient and we will contact you as soon as we can offer you an appointment.

If you have questions about the vaccine please ring the Stockport helpline on 0161 426 9910 email stoccg. otherwise please wait for us to contact you.

Keeping Safe

The Practice has put in place measures to ensure the safety of all patients and staff while also ensuring services are available as normal.  Assessment and testing of suspected coronavirus patients is carried out in line with strict guidelines and NOT done at the practice. This means that suspected cases are kept in isolation, away from public areas of GP surgeries, pharmacies and hospitals and returned home also in isolation. Any equipment that comes into contact with suspected cases is thoroughly cleaned as appropriate. Patients can be reassured that safety is everyone’s top priority and are encouraged to attend appointments as usual.

If you have a new cough or  fever or loss of sense of taste or smell you must get a Covid test and self isolate for 10 days from the day your symptoms started (or the day you had the test if you do not have symptoms). Anyone you live with will also need to self-isolate at the same time.  If you need further information or become unwell please call NHS 119 go to Or ring 999 in an emergency.

If you have an appointment at the surgery and develop any symptoms you must NOT attend your appointment, but follow advice above. If you have had a recent covid test do NOT attend the surgery until you have received a result and it is negative and your period of self isolation is over, unless directed to attend by your GP. If in doubt, please phone the surgery before attending.

Please wear a mask/face cover when you attend the surgery. Do you think you're exempt? Click here

Archwood leading the way in Pain Management

Dr Parker and Caroline Austin (our Practice Pharmacist) together with 12 Archwood patients are involved in a ground breaking project to try to reduce the use of morphine-like medication among patients living with pain. The project has won national funding to work with Stockport's Pain Service on this and we hope it will be an important step towards improving pain management for many of our patients.
