Welcome to Newtons Practice Website

MEASLES: The number of young people catching measles has risen.

Measles is an infection that spreads very easily and can cause serious problems in some people. Having the MMR vaccine is the best way to prevent it.

Measles symptoms include: high fever, sore, red, watery eyes: coughing; aching and feeling generally unwell; a blotchy red brown rash, which usually appears after initial symptoms.

If you have symptoms of measles, stay at home and phone your GP or NHS 111 for advice. Stay away from GP surgeries and A&E departments

Stay off nursery, school, or work for at least 4 days from when the rash first appears.

It’s never too late to be vaccinated.

You need two doses of the MMR vaccine to be fully protected against measles, mumps and rubella.

Crawley Hospital has a twenty-four hour, walk-in, urgent treatment centre that you can use:

Crawley Hospital Urgent Treatment Centre

Crawley hospital treats most injuries or illnesses that are urgent but not life threatening. For example sprains and strains, broken bones, minor burns and scalds, minor head and eye injuries, bites and stings. You do not need to book an appointment - just turn up and you will be seen promptly by either a doctor or nurse.

They provide an initial assessment and treatment of patients who would benefit from immediate care to improve their symptoms and reduce the need for an admission into an acute hospital. They refer patients onto the specialist team who require accident and emergency (A&E) care or speciality care.

All patients are booked in on arrival and assessed by a nurse. During assessment/triage a range of questions are asked to aid clinical management and prioritisation to ensure patients with the highest needs are seen first. During triage patients may be advised:

  • to see their own GP
  • referred to an alternative healthcare provider
  • advised on self care management
  • or to see a local pharmacist.

How to Access the Crawley Hospital Urgent Treatment Centre:

Open for walk-in patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Based at Crawley Hospital, West Green Drive, Crawley, RH11 7DH. Tel: 01293 600300 Ext.4141

Newtons Practice is an established medical centre with ten doctors serving over 13,500 patients in the Haywards Heath area. Centrally located in the town, the surgery provides the highest quality healthcare.

Our Practice opening times are 8.00am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.

We also have GP appointments and Nurse appointments available on a Saturday morning at our Network Group Practice in Haywards Heath.

As well as routine surgeries, the doctors and Practice Nurses provide a range of medical services and clinics which include Diabetes, Asthma, COPD, Gynae including contraceptive advice, Minor Surgery, NHS Health Checks and many more.

We also have six Paramedic Practitioners who hold a daily 'Urgent Care Clinic' who will help you if you are unwell and need treatment or advice.

The Paramedics will refer you on to see a GP if necessary.

Our phone lines will be closed between 1pm - 2pm for administrative purposes, if you need urgent advice from a doctor during this period, please ring the surgery for details of the emergency mobile telephone number.

Please note any emergencies should be called through before 6pm as our phone lines go over at this time. You'll be triaged and be able to speak to the 'Duty Doctor' as they are the only on call emergency doctor available. (Appointments and routine enquiries cannot be dealt with during this time).

WHEN WE ARE CLOSED: Should you need the services of a GP when we are closed please contact our out of hours provider via telephone number 111. They will advise you as to which is the most appropriate service for your immediate needs. If you need to be seen by a doctor, they will transfer your call to 'IC24', an out of hours GP service.

Your call will be triaged and if appropriate they will ask you to come into their base at the Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. They will also contact us with details of your telephone call or visit when we re-open so your medical records will be kept up to date.

Please make sure you give us your up to date mobile phone number and notify us if you are happy for a message to be left should you not answer.  Telephone calls are recorded for training and monitoring purposes.

There is access for disabled patients from the car park. All the consulting rooms are on one level. Please allow plenty of time for parking as it is often full and spaces are very limited.  There is a public car park next door if the Health Centre car park is full.
