  •         A new, continuous cough – this means coughing a lot for more than an hour, or 3 or more            coughing episodes in 24 hours (if you usually have a cough, it may be worse than usual)
  •         Loss or change to your sense of smell or taste – this means you've noticed you cannot smell or taste anything, or things smell or taste different to normal

To protect others, please do not come to the Practice with any of the above symptoms.

WE ARE A GP TRAINING PRACTICE

At Oaklands Surgery we are proud to have become a GP TRAINING PRACTICE, what does this mean for our practice and our patients.

Dr Bajulaiye and Dr Vootkur are qualified to offer training for Doctors wanting to become new GP's.  This means they have had special training covering all aspects of the GP training process with an emphasis on teaching consultation skills. The GP trainees see patients initially at a slower rate and build up gradually so that they can develop these skills teaching but also ensure that we are happy that our trainees are all safe and competent doctors and that our patients are in good hands!

The good news for patients is that being a Training Practice helps to ensure that we, as GPs are up to date and fully informed.   As Trainers we get regular assessments from the training board to check that the standards for training are met and that the Practice is a suitable learning environment for our trainees.

We feel that training the GPs of the future it is an extremely important part of what we do at Oaklands Surgery and the trainees we have are very valuable members of the Health Care Team. They have a lot to offer patients in terms of their excellent clinical skills, up-to-date knowledge and fresh enthusiasm and it is hoped that maybe some may choose to settle in this area bringing much needed new GP's to Canvey Island.

What is the NHS Remote Patient Monitoring Service?

The service has been created by the NHS and Doctaly to help monitor patients at home who have certain long term conditions such as asthma, diabetes and hypertension. It is designed to help NHS healthcare professionals safely manage and monitor these patients without the patients needing to physically visit a GP practice. Many of these patients are particularly at risk from COVID-19, therefore home monitoring can help keep them safe.

What is Doctaly Assist?

Doctaly Assist is the technology platform that the above Service uses. The platform has been developed in partnership with the NHS, Kings College London and Imperial College.

How does it work and how can it help me?

If your doctor feels that you should be monitored, with your consent you will be invited to use the service. You will receive clinical assessment reminders via WhatsApp, asking you a series of questions about your condition and how you are feeling. Your responses will always be reviewed by a healthcare professional and if necessary, you may be contacted directly via chat, phone or video.

Where can I find more information

Health and care organisations have taken great strides in bringing together health and care services to improve the experience for individuals.

As part of this work, we want to ensure that health and care professionals directly involved in a person’s care have access to the most up-to-date information about them.

My Care Record facilitates the lawful sharing between health and care professionals through access to records by participating partners.

ACR project for patients with diabetes

The data is being processed for the purpose of delivery of a programme, sponsored by NHS Digital, to monitor urine for indications of chronic kidney disease (CKD) which is recommended to be undertaken annually for patients at risk of chronic kidney disease e.g., patients living with diabetes. The programme enables patients to test their kidney function from home. We will share your contact details with Healthy.io to enable them to contact you and confirm that you wish them to send you a test kit. This will help identify patients at risk of kidney disease and help us agree any early interventions that can be put in place for the benefit of your care. Healthy.io will only use your data for the purposes of delivering their service to you. If you do not wish to receive a home test kit from Healthy.io we will continue to manage your care within the Practice. Healthy.io are required to hold data we send them in line with retention periods outlined in the Records Management code of Practice for Health and Social Care. Further information about this is available at http://bit.ly/uACRtest.
