FACE MASKS

IT IS NOT OUR POLICY TO PROVIDE FACE MASK EXEMPTION LETTERS

From July 24th 2020, individuals will be required to wear a facemask in various public settings in accordance with recent government guidance, or face a fine of £100. The Government website lists legitimate reasons for not wearing facemasks, find out more at www.gov.uk.

As your GP practice, it is not our policy to issue letters of exemption to wear face masks. Government guidance suggests that there is no requirement for an individual to produce evidence of exemption.

Coronavirus and changes to our services

Coronavirus (COVID-19): what you need to know

Coronavirus Vaccines

When will I receive my vaccination?

The Covid-19 vaccination programme has begun. When it is your turn to be vaccinated, the NHS will contact you. Please do not contact the NHS.

Eligible residents in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire can book their Covid-19 vaccine by calling 119 or visiting the National Booking Website

In Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, a few different health and care organisations including hospitals, GP practices, care homes and others are working together on the Covid-19 vaccination programme. This means when it is your turn to be vaccinated, this may not be at your GP practice. You will be told where to go for your appointment and how to book.

In line with expert guidance, the first priority for vaccination is care homes residents and staff, people over the age of 80 and frontline health and care workers.

We understand a lot of people want to be vaccinated and would like to reassure you this will happen. Please be patient and wait to be contacted.

For further information on why you are being asked to wait for your Covid-19 vaccine, please read the information on the gov.uk website: Why you have to wait for your COVID-19 vaccine - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

COVID Population Risk assessment

Oxford University have developed a tool which has been used by the NHS to help identify patients who may be at greater risk of developing complications from COVID.

You may have recently received a letter from NHS England because you have been identified as high risk based upon these calculations. Please have a look if you are concerned about why you have been contacted.

Government guidance on staying at home

DO NOT COME TO THE SURGERY.

You do not need to contact 111 to tell them you're staying at home.

Cough may persist for several weeks in some people, despite the coronavirus infection having cleared. A persistent cough alone does not mean someone must continue to stay at home for more than 14 days.

Please DO NOT COME INTO the surgery. Please return home, stay indoors and avoid contact with others.

Contact NHS 111 for advice or go to their website https://111.nhs.uk/service/covid-19

Germ Defence

Germ Defence is an evidence-based behaviour change website that provides advice on infection control at home. A clinical trial of 20,000 people during the time of the H1N1 pandemic and seasonal ‘flu (published in The Lancet) showed that using Germ Defence successfully reduced the number and severity of infections in the home, as well as the need for primary care consultations and antibiotics.

IMPORTANT NOTICE REGARDING CHANGES TO THE APPOINTMENT SYSTEM

Due to the ongoing situation with Coronavirus, we are taking measures in line with guidance shared by NHS England and Public Health authorities to minimise risks associated with the virus.

In order to protect our patients and staff and we are asking our patients support with this.

What does this mean for you?

Appointments:

We are asking all patients not to attend the practice without prior agreement from a member of our clinical team.  From Monday 16th March 2020 we want to minimise the number of patients attending the Practice for face to face appointments.  This means that all patients are required to contact the practice by telephone to request an appointment, providing details of their need.  A member of the clinical team will then phone you back to discuss your need, and wherever possible this need will be met over the telephone.  If the clinician deems that you require a face to face appointment, you will be asked some screening questions to determine whether there is a need for a coronavirus assessment. If this is the case you will be asked to self-isolate for 7 days.  If there is no risk you will be given a face to face appointment.

Existing appointments:

All pre-existing appointments are being reviewed by the clinical team. If it is deemed that your appointment is not urgent this may be cancelled and re-scheduled at a later date by the Practice.  If the appointment needs to go ahead, wherever possible this will take place over the telephone.  If your appointment is being cancelled or changed to telephone, our administrative team will contact you to advise you of this.  If the appointment needs to be face to face you will be contacted prior the appointment and asked some screening questions to ensure it is appropriate for you to attend the Practice.

Access to the Surgery

Access to the building will be restricted to the patients who have been invited for an appointment by a Clinician.

Anyone who attempts to gain access to the surgery who has not been invited will be asked to leave the premises.

Only the patient with the appointment will be allowed into the building.

For children, only one parent/guardian will be allowed to accompany the child.

Prescriptions

Paper requests for repeat prescriptions can be handed into reception or posted in the letter box just by the entrance door.

To order a repeat prescription, please either:

  • Telephone the surgery between the hours of 12:00 to 15:00
  • Request online or use the NHS app. If not registered please contact the surgery to register for online services.
  • Email the request to:nnicb-nn84151@nhs.net

Self isolation advice available here https://111.nhs.uk/isolation-note/

Sick Note Requests

This is a very challenging time for us all and we would appreciate your co-operation during this period of uncertainty.

Our priority is the health and safety of all our patients and staff.

Thank you.

Welcome The Medical Centre (Zulu Road)

The Medical Centre opened in 1991 to serve the people of New Basford and surrounding areas. It is a single handed GP surgery run by Dr Khudija Irfan and a Teaching Practice of the University of Nottingham.

We are confident that our website will provide clear and concise help and give our patients the information they require in an easy and convenient format. It has been designed with the patient’s needs at the forefront of everything, from checking surgery times to letting us know what you think of us.

Our Mission Statement

"Our purpose is to ensure those visiting our practice receive high quality and personal care; we aim to achieve this by having a team who are receptive to the patient's needs and expectations.

We want to ensure we deliver services which echo the latest developments in primary care"

Out Of Hours Care

Outside normal surgery hours (evenings, weekends and bank holidays) emergency cover for the practice is provided by NEMS Community Benefit Services Ltd Out of Hours service. The Out of Hours service provides medical care for patients that do not need Emergency Department Care. It is a service that is led by a range of clinical staff such as GPs, Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners and Emergency care Practitioners.

This service is for problems which cannot wait until the next available surgery. You will be required to provide full information about your problem and will be expected if required to attend Platform One Practice (based on Station Street, Nottingham) if necessary. Advice may also be given if attending for a face to face appointment is not deemed to be required.

During out of hours you should telephone the practice and instructions will be provided on how to contact NEMS.

For other general medical advice you can always contact the NHS 111 service if you urgently need medical help or advice but it is not a life threatening situation.
