NEW SURGERY PREMISES PROPOSAL - PRESS RELEASE

WE NEED YOUR FEEDBACK ABOUT THE PLANS FOR OUR NEW PREMISES!

Proposals to create a modern base for a Huddersfield GP practice have been submitted to planners.

The proposed scheme, to replace Lindley Group Practice’s existing building next to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary with a brand-new medical centre right next to the current premises, have been submitted for formal planning and funding approval.

The idea of the new building has long been in the pipeline, and many patients gave feedback on what they’d like to see in new premises via a survey in 2018. Most people were very supportive of the need for better facilities and keen to see better accommodation for the practice team.

The proposed new building would be constructed right next to the current surgery. The state-of-the-art, energy-efficient new medical centre would have dedicated patient, clinical and administrative space and capacity to provide more training for staff, with better parking for all who use the building.

Dr Matt Kaye from Lindley Group Practice said: “For us, this is first about the care that we can give to our patients: with the building we have now, there are limits to what we can do and the experience that we can give our patients when they come to see us. We want more for our patients and this new facility will give us the modern space we need to do that. This is also about creating a much better workplace for our team. We’ve grown our staff exponentially over the years and we need more and better space to accommodate all the professionals supporting our patients.”

Catherine Wormstone, Head of Primary Care Strategy and Commissioning for Kirklees CCG said: “It’s great to see the plans for Lindley Group Practice developing. I know the team are putting a lot of time into creating the right space where they can provide services that meet patients’ needs, today and in the future.”

Lindley Group Practice has been based in its current building next to Huddersfield Royal Infirmary since the 1960s. Over the years, the practice has taken on more staff and needs more space and parking to offer a wider range of services to its 11,000 patients. Some consulting rooms are very small and not fit for purpose, doorways are narrow making wheelchair access difficult and four consulting rooms are upstairs and there is no lift. The reception area is cramped and offers little privacy for patients or the practice team.

The proposed new building would offer capacity to care for 13,000 patients and would be fully-accessible for patients with disabilities. Patients can share ideas and suggestions for the new building at      www.lindleygpbuild.com

************************************************************************************************************************

From Monday 27 September 2021

To the patients of Lindley Group practice,

From 27.9.2021 we have changed how appointments are offered. When you contact the surgery, you will still be asked by reception for some further information.  If following this a GP appointment is required, subject to availability,  you will be offered the option of a phone call or face to face appointment.

Any online booked appointments will remain as a phone-call currently however if we are given enough information in the reason for the appointment and feel a face-to-face review may be more appropriate you may receive a text message asking you to attend instead.

If you have requested a telephone call, the change means you will be advised the call is either morning or afternoon. We will not be able to give you an exact time you will receive the call.

For URGENT requests we do ask that you give the reception team as much information as possible. This allows the on-call doctor to triage the request and decide on the most appropriate management. For URGENT requests you MUST also be available to attend the surgery if requested at ANY point in the day.

With regards to the booking of appointments you will only be able to do this over the phone or via our online system.  The receptionists will not be booking ANY appointments at reception to try and keep the number of people in reception to a minimum.

If we are seeing more people face to face, due to the constraints of our building it will be impossible to maintain social distancing in our waiting rooms. We will provide hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes if you wish to wipe down your chair/armrests and MASK WEARING REMAINS MANDATORY.  However, once you have checked in if you do not feel comfortable waiting in the waiting room then please wait outside where we can easily find you.

COVID 19

As per national guidance if you have symptoms of Covid 19 or are isolating please do not attend the surgery. If following a phone-call we decide you need to be seen at the surgery, we will arrange this with you.  If you are symptomatic, we will not accept the home lateral flow tests as evidence of not having Covid 19, you MUST book a PCR test either online at www.gov.uk or by calling 119.

A note about Econsults - please DO NOT USE them to request an appointment with the GP. If you feel you need to speak to a doctor, then either book an appointment online or call the surgery. Any Econsults received requesting a call-back will be texted advising them to book an appointment at the surgery.

As with any changes there will be teething problems. Please bear with us while we all adjust. This does not mean we will have additional appointments available, the doctors will still continue the same number of appointments they have done throughout the pandemic but you will be offered the option of phone or face to face.  As a guide each GP has 30-35 patient contacts per day (not including the on-call GP). We ask you to be kind and patient and as always, we will ensure that we do the same.

Social Media Zero Tolerance Policy

Following activity on Social Media where patients of Lindley Group Practice have posted derogatory comments about the practice and some of our staff; we now have a Social Media Zero Tolerance Policy in place.

If any such posts are brought to our attention they could be viewed as a potential breakdown in the doctor-patient professional relationship, and may result in the individual being removed from our list.

We may contact the patients involved and invite them to have a discussion with the practice manager or one of the GP Partners to explore any issues they may have.

We welcome all feedback as it gives us the opportunity to review the services that we provide and, where necessary or appropriate, make changes or improvements.

We would ask that rather than posting derogatory or hurtful comments about the practice or any of our staff on social media, please speak to us about this or put your comments to us in writing giving us the opportunity to respond.

Posting derogatory or offensive comments online can cause unwarranted distress to our practice members and staff.

They may also cause other patients to delay or dissuade them from presenting to the surgery to received medical treatment.

PLEASE CONSIDER THE IMPACT OF YOUR ONLINE ACTIVITY BEFORE YOU POST A COMMENT.

CHANGE IN PHONE LINE OPENING TIME FROM NOVEMBER 2020

From Monday 9th November 2020, our phone lines now open at 8am Monday to Friday. The closing time remains unchanged.

INCREASED CALL DEMAND AND ABUSE TOWARDS STAFF

Our reception are experiencing significant increased call demand and ask that patients only contact us if absolutely necessary. We ask that patients use online access to their medical records for results, to order prescriptions and use other services such as Pharmacists, Opticians, Dentists and www.nhs.uk.  To obtain online access to your medical record, please contact reception.

We understand the pandemic is a stressful time for us all and request your patience during this busy time, we are taking calls as quickly and efficiently as possible.  However verbal abuse towards staff will not be tolerated and will result in removal from the practice list.
