Sharing of Patient Data

Posts are circulating on social media with incorrect information about how confidential data is shared by the NHS.

We have published a statement on our website, but these are the important points:

  • You can opt-out at any time - there is no deadline
  • We only share data to improve health and care
  • Health and care data helps the NHS respond to emergencies like the coronavirus outbreak
  • There are lots of protections in place to make sure patient data secure and safe
  • We do not sell health and care data
  • We do not share data with marketing and insurance companies

Last updated 02.06.21

You can book your covid vaccine appointments at Newcastle Eagles:

Clinics are uploaded weekly and so if you can’t see any available slots, please refresh the site every few days.

If you are housebound (i.e. you cannot, under any circumstances, leave your house) and have not had a vaccine please ring the Practice.

COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates

You can get your COVID-19 vaccination certificate via one of the following methods:

  • Request by telephone by calling 119; a letter will arrive within 5 weeks
  • NHS app

The surgery are unable to provide these certificates

You can learn more about COVID-19 vaccination certificates on the Government website.

Same Day Help for Children

If your child has become acutely unwell and you would like urgent advice then please contact the surgery and we will arrange for a clinician to speak to you and if necessary to see your child the same day – this could save you an unnecessary trip to A&E or a Walk-in Centre.

Can we also make you aware of the Little Orange Book, which provides expert help for parents and carers on how to manage common problems in babies and small children – ask at the reception desk for a copy, or view it online here.

Missed Appointments

We are trying to reduce the number of appointments that patients fail to attend and would appreciate your assistance in improving the appointment availability and making it easier when booking an appointment. If you are unable to attend, please call us to cancel so the appointment can be used for someone else. If you have access to online services, you can cancel your upcoming appointment online on any day or time - please ask one of the receptionists for more information.

e-Consult Service

The e-Consult service involves completing an online form which is then sent to our practice for review. You can expect a response by the end of the next working day.

You can use the e-Consult service to:

  • Get advice about a non-urgent problem from a doctor
  • Request a sick note
  • Ask about test results

You can access the e-Consult service via this link

The e-Consult service should not be used if you need urgent advice from a doctor.

Making an Appointment

When you ring for an appointment the receptionist may ask you what the problem is. The receptionist is not trying to be awkward or nosey but merely trying to find out what the most appropriate course of action to take would be to deal with your call most efficiently and effectively for you. On many occasions we find that appointments are booked with a doctor when a telephone consultation may be more suitable or an appointment with the nurse or health care assistant may be more appropriate.

Lack of information at the first point of contact means that we can't help patients more efficiently or effectively and we as a practice are trying to avoid any unnecessary use of doctor appointments and minimise inconvenience to you, our patients. We understand that not all patients will feel comfortable disclosing information regarding their problem with the receptionist and if you do not wish to do so, that is fine.

Extended Access Appointments

Extended access appointments are currently unavailable.

Booking Appointments Online

*This service has been temporarily suspended.*

You can book appointments yourself above via the links in the 'Online Services' section of this page.

When booking online appointments yourself, please note these appointments are GP appointments only. If it is a nurse appointment you need (e.g. travel vaccinations), please telephone the surgery.

About the Practice

At Gosforth Memorial Medical Centre we aim to treat all our patients courteously, fairly and in complete confidence. We endeavour to provide a family based service and have particular interest in antenatal, children’s health, minor surgery, dermatology, family planning, chronic disease management and health promotion.

Our aim is to provide patient services via an easily accessed team approach to an integrated primary health care service delivered by qualified medical professionals and a well-trained support team.

We are a ‘training practice’. This means hospital doctors wanting to enter general practice spend six months or more with us in order to gain the experience they need to become family doctors.

The surgery is easily accessible via the main entrance. Toilet facilities on the ground floor are also suitable for the disabled and we have a specially adapted consulting room – please tell the Receptionist if you need this room. There is a loop system for the hard of hearing.

We also have access to interpreting services. Please inform the reception staff when registering if English is not your first language. Family members cannot be used as your interpreter. When booking an appointment ask reception if they can also book you an interpreter. We would appreciate you reminding us if you cancel your appointment if an interpreter has been booked to enable us to cancel them as well otherwise the NHS will still be charged.
