Blood Tests
We have dedicated phlebotomy clinics for routine blood tests. You may only book an appointment for blood tests that have been agreed by one of our doctors or nurses. If the doctor has not arranged a follow-up appointment, ring after 2pm a week later, when the receptionist should be able to give you a message from the doctor about your test.
For patients on warfarin, we have an INR testing machine at the surgery. Our healthcare assistant can test a finger prick blood sample and we can usually calculate your new dose immediately.
Child Health Surveillance
All the doctors are qualified to carry out these examinations.
6-8 week examinations are done by the doctors and normally arranged to coincide with the Tuesday Baby Clinic.
Let reception know if you are booking your child in for this reason.
Minor Illness
We have a nurse led minor illness clinic most days. Reception can book you into this clinic.
Minor Surgery
We are able to offer some minor surgery procedures and joint injections. Please ask the doctor about this service.
Physiotherapy
Our reception can book you an appointment for an assessment by a physiotherapist for any muscoloskeletal problem (operating mainly remotely by phone during the Covid-19 emergency).
You can also self-refer to a Stay Steady clinic to help with balance and falls prevention (these are operating by phone or video link during the pandemic). Ring 029 2183 2552 or email staysteady.cardiff@wales.nhs.uk
Cervical Smear Testing
We offer a cervical smear service on any weekday. Make an appointment with one of the nurses.
Diabetes, COPD & Asthma Clinics
We will ask you to attend these nurse led clinics if necessary.
Flu Clinics
These are held annually from late September. Please book via reception if you qualify.
Baby Clinic
Our health visitors run a baby clinic at the surgery every Tuesday afternoon, jointly with one of our nurses. Ask reception to book an appointment for this clinic. Most early immunisations are done here, as well as the 6 to 8 week check by one of the doctors. The parents of new babies will receive a letter requesting they bring their baby to an eight week check. Please let reception know this is the reason for your appointment.
Contraception & Family Planning
All the permanent doctors and nurses are trained in family planning.
Dr Henderson fits contraceptive coils (IUCD and IUS). We do not currently fit contraceptive implants.
You should see one of the doctors if you want to start a new method of contraception, but you can usually see the nurses for routine check-ups after that.

Sexual Health
We can give advice on sexual infections and do some testing at surgery.
For full screening for sexual infections, you can go to the local Integrated Sexual Health Clinic at Cardiff Royal Infirmary without needing a referral.

Counselling
Our reception can book you a telephone appointment with a mental health worker to assess how best to help you.
The Primary Care Mental Health Liaison service based within your GP practice is still working and ready to help GPs and their patients find solutions for mental health problems. We know that getting through on the phone can sometimes be difficult, so if you want us to book you an appointment for a call back from a mental health practitioner, then please email Cavmentalhealth.gpadvice@wales.nhs.uk and we will be happy to book you in.
You will be asked for your name, date of birth and address and preferred telephone number, as well as the name of your usual surgery and a brief account of the nature of your problem (e.g. anxiety) . We need this information from you to make sure that we can link in properly with your GP. This is a secure email address and any case notes will be entered into your usual GP case notes. Your email address will not be stored or used for any other purpose
There is also a counselling service, able to provide short term therapy for some emotional and psychological difficulties. Counselling services are now operating remotely, mainly by telephone.
