Childhood and Teenage Immunisations
Please see the link below for the current recommendations for immunising children and teenagers
NHS vaccinations and when to have them - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
First immunisations for babies are discussed as part of their 6-8 week GP check. Your Health Visitor can also provide information about this check and baby immunisations.
Babies are first immunised at 8,12 and 16 weeks of age
MMR vaccinations are generally given between 12 and 15 months of age
Pre-school boosters are given after 3 and a half years of age
All Teenage Immunisations are undertaken at school by the School Nursing Team. If you need further information regarding this, please contact your child’s school who can put you in touch with the School Nurses.
Contraceptive Services
Our practice nurses, in conjunction with the doctors provide a full range of contraceptive services in normal surgery and by appointment. Emergency contraception can also be obtained from the Walk-in-Centre.
Phlebotomy Services
We have a Phlebotomy Service – i.e. service for taking blood. Appointments are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday mornings.
Teenage Health
We offer a discrete and confidential service for teenagers to discuss any health issues with either the doctor or practice nurse.
We also have a variety of leaflets and information available for our teenage patients. Just ask one of the receptionists if you would like to know more about any of the following:
- Keeping Fit and Healthy
- Teenage pregnancy
- Not smoking
- Being a young carer
- HPV and Meningitis C vaccinations
- Sexual Health
- Contraception
If you want to speak with a receptionist in private for this information, just ask to have a word away from the reception desk and they will be happy to help.
Minor Operations
We endeavour to provide high quality care by experienced clinicians in the surgery to reduce the need for unnecessary hospital referrals and procedures which inevitably cost more than they would do in General Practice.
Currently we are able to remove many types of cysts and other skin lesions that cause irritation or bleeding, or which catch on clothing.
Are by arrangement with the doctors.
Asthma Reviews
If you have asthma and use an inhaler, you will need a review once a year. Typically this will be around the time of your birthday month.
You will be asked to make an appointment with one of the Practice Nurses and this will last around 20 minutes.
If you keep a peak flow diary, it would be useful if you can bring this to your appointment, along with a list of your medications / inhalers.

Diabetes Care
Most people with diabetes controlled by diet or medication have all their care provided at their surgery. Patients needing insulin sometimes start off with hospital appointments but then are transferred to a GP for future care once their diabetes is under control. If you have a diabetes-related problem that needs treatment by a specialist, you can choose to be referred to a Nottingham or Derby hospital.
We will invite you for your Diabetes Annual Review once a year, usually around birthday month and then 6 months later for a follow-up review. This may be done by letter, text or phone call.
For more information on diabetes, please visit the Diabetes UK website.
