Student Accommodation Enhancement and Expansion Project Update at Keele University
Keele Health Centre has an on–site dispensary where patients can have their prescription dispensed if they live over 1.6 km (as the crow flies) from a pharmacy. Anyone not living over 1.6km from a pharmacy will be given a prescription to take to their local pharmacy.
If you take medication on a long–term basis, you can ask for a repeat prescription by ringing the surgery. You can also call in and ask at the dispensary. Your prescription will be available for you to pick up in two working days.
If you need a repeat prescription in an emergency please advise the dispenser, so that she can arrange for you to collect either the medication or the prescription as soon as possible. If the drug that you require is not in stock you can take the prescription to a pharmacy where they will be able to dispense it for you. If you require the "morning after pill" please ring reception and they will arrange an appointment with either the doctor or nurse urgently. If you require an emergency prescription when the surgery is closed, ring the surgery phone number, and the answer phone message will give you the emergency phone number.
Extensive exemption and remission arrangements protect those likely to have difficulty in paying charges (NHS prescription and dental charges, optical and hospital travel costs). The NHS prescription charge is a flat-rate amount which successive Governments have thought it reasonable to charge for those who can afford to pay for their medicines. Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) offer real savings for people who need extensive medication.
These charges apply in England only. In Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales prescriptions are free of charge.
If you will have to pay for four or more prescription items in three months, or more than 15 items in 12 months, you may find it cheaper to buy a PPC.
There is further information about prescription exemptions and fees on the NHS website
Please allow 48 hours, excluding weekends and Bank Holidays, for your request to be processed. Any problems please telephone the surgery.
