We have received details of a particularly cruel phishing scam which is circulating at the moment and affecting people with remote pacing and cardiac monitoring devices.
A patient appears to have been the victim of an opportunistic phishing scam, and paid £167 over the telephone using his debit card to the caller.
The caller stated that his “box/equipment” was not working due to “Dust”. He was offered the opportunity to replace it and at the same time offered the option of purchasing either a five year warranty for £140 or lifetime warranty for £167. As the patient was due to have a routine remote check on his device by the Pacemaker clinic, the patient believed that the call was legitimate and therefore paid £167 to the caller. The patient and his partner were subsequently suspicious, so they called the Pacemaker clinic a few hours later to check if the problem had been fixed. The clinic explained it was not a call from the hospital or from the manufacturer of the equipment.
Clinics and device companies would never ask for personal details or charge for services.
We believe that every patient, simply by being registered with the practice, is a member of our patient group. We hope you will all participate in trying to improve patient services and facilities.
On-line Patient Group
For those patients who have an email address, we have an on-line ‘virtual’ group for those patients who wish to give and receive information by email. We are asking patients to join this group and if you haven’t done so already, please join by clicking the button below. We are aiming to increase membership from a broad range of ages and locations, to share views that will help design and shape services.
The Patient Participation Group – TRMC Patient Focus Group
The PPG is a group of patients who meet regularly with the practice to:
· Give feedback to the practice regarding services from the patients point of view
· Act as a sounding board for new ideas
· Act as 'critical friends' to the medical centre
· Offer suggestions to improve services and facilities
· Help with surveys to obtain wider patient opinion

Each year, the practice consults with the PPG to produce patient surveys. The PPG helps to:
· Decide on the content of the questionnaire and how it will be distributed
· Consider the results and produce an action plan
· Review the action plan from the previous year
As in previous years, the practice had to produce a report for the Primary Care Organisation (formerly Somerset Primary Care Trust, now NHS England) containing information about the PPG, the survey and the action plan. These reports are published on the practice website along with the results and action plans.
