Patient Participation Group

In order to improve and maintain communication with patients and the local community, the Surgery has an established patient group.  The Patient Participation Group (PPG) are volunteers who give their time to work alongside the Practice to help and represent the Patients.

The group operate on a number of levels:

Representation

The PPG help represent patient interests into the Health Service and the Surgery with attendance at 4 meetings each year, aimed at cascading information and updates relating to services within the NHS.

Social

Each year the Patient Group and Surgery staff arrange a number of social events to help raise money for new equipment and facilities at the surgery, such as blood pressure machines in the waiting room, and baby changing facilities for new Mums.  Events include Easter and Christmas raffles, a Summer event and October Flu Clinic with information from local support services and organisations. The Patient Group sell raffle tickets (for the Patient Equipment Fund) and have cake sales in aid of the East Anglian Air Ambulance.

Fundraising

Through this and other fundraising events, the PPG have been able to improve the surgery facilities, update equipment and improve the general wellbeing for our Patients visiting the surgery.

Educational

The meetings also have information sessions, where groups such as Dementia Friends and Medical Detection Dog staff and volunteers outline their services.  If you'd like us to invite a specific support group to a meeting, please contact Loraine Harris, the Practice Manager on 01480 860770.

How to help

The PPG and surgery staff hope you will feel this is a valuable community group as well as a personal benefit for patients and staff, and look forward to receiving patient suggestions, help and support regarding improvements which can be made, which can be made using the Friends and Family feedback forms in the waiting room.  Please look out for our raffles and fundraising events, which are advertised within the Surgery, newsletters , on the website and on posters across surrounding villages.

If you would like to come to our next meeting, please contact the Practice Manager, Loraine Harris on tel: 01480 860770 or email greatstaughton@nhs.net.

Surgery Issues and Complaints

Finally, if you have a complaint or an issue with a Doctor or Nurse or member of the team, but feel uncomfortable with a direct approach, the Patient Group can protect your anonymity and still progress your grievance.
