Seeing Your Doctor
We encourage you to make appointments with your "usual" doctor. This may not be the doctor with whom you are registered; it will be the doctor whom you know best. However, if you wish to discuss a problem with a doctor of a specific sex, we will do our best to accommodate this request. There may be occasions when your "usual" doctor is not available. Please be prepared to accept an appointment with another doctor in these circumstances.
Cancelling Appointments
Please telephone us if you are not able to attend as even cancelling one hour before the time slot can usually be allocated to another patient.
Same Day Appointments - Patient Triage
Upton Surgery offers a same day patient service which will ensure that all patients are dealt with fairly by an appropriate member of our medical team and that problems are dealt with urgently if necessary.
When a patient calls for a same day, urgent, appointment with the Doctor we now ‘triage’ the request.
The Receptionist taking the appointment request will inform the caller that their request will be added to our triage list for a member of our Duty Team (Doctor or Nurse) to call the patient back. They will also ask for a brief idea as to what the problem is, as this is extremely helpful for the Duty Team to prioritise urgency of call backs.
Return calls are normally made within the hour and we ask that patients remain available during this period.
Should the patient’s condition deteriorate callers are advised to contact the Surgery again and not wait to be called back.
By triaging same day appointment requests we ensure that all patients are dealt with fairly by an appropriate member of our medical team and that problems are dealt with urgently if necessary.
Upton Surgery is committed to its strategy of working for you to provide excellent patient care.
Telephone Appointments
The Surgery offers the facility of 5 minute telephone appointments. Patients contact the surgery to make a telephone appointment. The sessions are named as telephone appointments. The Receptionist will take a contact telephone number and Doctor or Nurse will telephone the patient around the time of the appointment, give or take 10 minutes. This facility is very useful for patients requesting test results or medical advice.
