About Us

Highland LMC represents GPs and practices across Highland and Argyll & Bute. We provide advice that helps the Highland Health Board make informed decisions. We deal with matters that relate to the terms and conditions of service. We also do many other things from providing professional information to GPs and helping our members find the support that they may need. We will represent our members regardless of their contractual status.

The committee is made up of GP representatives who are elected to represent the different geographical areas in the NHS Highland area and also to ensure that the views of all types of doctor working in general practice are represented, including sessional doctors and GP trainees.

Highland LMC meets six times a year, following GP sub meetings. In between meetings, the Chairman’s Group meets (comprising of five committee members) to discuss items of operational importance. The five Chairman's Group members are currently Dr Jonathan Ball, Dr Susan Hussey-Wilson, Dr Iain Kennedy, Dr Chris Williams and Dr Miles Mack.

The Chairman’s Group, LMC and GP Sub are chaired by Dr Jonathan Ball. The Vice Chair is Dr Iain Kennedy. Highland LMC has a part-time medical secretary, Dr Susan Hussey-Wilson and a part-time lay secretary, Lindsay Dunn.

Highland LMC is represented on the Scottish General Practitioners' Committee (currently by Dr Hussey-Wilson and Dr Kennedy). Highland LMC members also attend both Scottish and UK BMA conferences in order to influence policy.

In 2016 a new interim GMS contract was introduced in Scotland, and currently Scottish LMCs are working with Boards and Practices to implement the changes. This is intended to be a prelude to a new and more sustainable way of working in General Practice.

Highland LMC is a company limited by guarantee.
