Men ACWY in young adults.

MenW disease continues to increase overall and around a third of MenW cases in unvaccinated 15-19 year olds have been fatal. There have been no cases in teenagers vaccinated under the current programme. Therefore it is extremely important that as many of the eligible cohort are offered vaccination as soon as possible.

The Men ACWY vaccine is now available at the surgery. This vaccine is for young people aged between 15 - 19 years old. Please contact the surgery to arrange your vaccination.

Holiday Vaccinations

Patients planning a trip abroad should check with us at least 6-8 weeks before they are due to travel.  More information and a travel health questionnaire can be found on the above tab. Then please book with a travel centre to have the required vaccines.

Additional Services

The surgery offers a range of additional services, some of these can be provided either in the form of a clinic or by individual consultation and can also be performed by either the practice nurse, the healthcare assistant or a member of the Community Nursing Team.

Maternity medical service - a full service from antenatal care through to confinement and post-natal check. If you are pregnant please self register with the midwives a Darent Valley Hospital via their website - there is no need to book in with a GP at this stage.

Contraceptive service - advice and management is given on all types of contraception (pill, injection, cap, sheath, etc).

Minor surgery - this can include: removal of moles, cysts, skin lesions, warts, injections into joints and soft tissue e.g. treatment of tennis elbow. (This is not available at our surgery at the moment)

Mini health update - 16 year olds - A confidential mini health questionnaire is sent to all our younger patients on or around their 16th birthday.  This to ensure that whilst they may not have been seen by a doctor or practice nurse  for some time we have an accurate record of their current health status.

Asthmatics - patients suffering from asthma can check that they are using inhalers, etc. properly and discuss any problems or anxieties. Advice is also given on how to successfully manage the condition.

Diabetics - patients suffering from diabetes should have regular checks. We offer an annual eye screening service during which the retina is photographed and then examined to monitor the progress of the disease. Our diabetic nurse also sees diabetic patients regularly for blood tests and a complete health check. Any problems or anxieties can be discussed as well as advice given.
