DEMENTIA AWARENESS WEEK

Last week (19/05/2023) was Dementia Awareness week. Our Dementia Champion, Leah organised a mismatch week where all of our staff dressed in mismatched clothes to highlight the struggles patients with dementia may face when dressing. Thanks to our staff and patient donations, we have raised a massive £400 which has been donated to the Alzheimers Society!

PRESCRIPTION REQUESTS – POLICY CHANGE

During the Covid-19 pandemic we have allowed all patients to request their prescriptions over the phone between the hours of 10:00 and 12:00.

From Monday 20th February 2023 we will no longer accept any prescription requests over the phone (at any time). This is a change we feel is necessary to ensure safe prescribing for our patients.

Prescriptions should be requested via online services wherever possible (usually via SystmOnline or the NHS App). You are also able to hand in your prescription request at the surgery using the letterbox to the right of our front door.

Requests are also accepted via email at NNICB-NN.OaksMedicalCentre@nhs.net

Please ensure all requests include your name and date of birth.

Our prescription turnaround time will not change – we will continue to offer a ‘next day after 3PM’ service. (Please allow additional time for the pharmacy to prepare your prescription)

If you would like access to online services via SystmOnline please click here to complete this form and return it to the surgery with a form of photo ID (i.e. Driving licence, passport).

There is help available to get you signed up to the NHS App and show you how to use it

You can call our local Digital Inclusion officer on 07584 268550 or visit any of the following drop in sessions

  • Tuesdays 09:00-12:00 at Stapleford Care Centre, Church Street Stapleford (NG9 8GA)
  • Wednesdays 09:30-11:00 at Hope House, Boundary Road Beeston (NG9 2RF)
  • Thursdays 10:00-12:00 at Middle Street Resource Centre Beeston (NG9 2AR)

Children with fever

Coughs/colds in children are very common. Some symptoms such as cough or fever can also be due to Covid-19. A snotty or runny nose is NOT a common symptom of Covid-19.
You can click the link below for information on how to manage fever in children https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/fever-in-children/

f your child is unusually unwell please contact reception to speak to a GP.

Clinician Telephone Appointments

As you may be aware, we are now operating a hybrid appointment system with increased us of telephone/video consultation compared with before the pandemic. Unfortunately we have seen an increasing number of failed contacts when patients ask for a telephone consultation and as such have implemented the following rules:

If you have requested a telephone consultation then the clinician will attempt to call you TWO times only.

If you fail to answer the call on both of these occasions then the clinician will not try again and this will count as a 'Did Not Attend' appointment.

You will then need to contact our reception team on 0115 925 4566 to re-book for another day.

We thank you for your understanding on this matter and appreciate that there can be circumstances beyond your control. However, we feel that we have to put these rules in place to ensure that we can continue to meet the demand of all of our patients and reduce wasted appointments.

Asthma Review Options

We have been looking at different ways of delivering asthma reviews for our patients. You now have a choice of how you want your asthma review completing:

  • Complete the online asthma review on our website (accessible here
  • Complete online via the NHS App/Patients Know best (accessible here)
  • We can send you a text for you to complete your review questionnaire on your phone. Just call us on 0115 925 4566 and ask us to text you the asthma questionnaire!
  • Call us on 0115 925 4566 to arrange an asthma review over the phone or via a video call or face to face appointment

All of these options are designed to make your asthma review easier and more accessible for you! We can still bring you down to the surgery for a face to face appointment if we need to.

Face Coverings

Following guidance from the Government we will not be issuing letters to patients who feel they are unable to wear face coverings, as the Government have clearly defined the exemptions to this requirement. General Practice is already under considerable pressure as a direct result of the current challenges they are faced with delivering a service to patients at the same time as coping with the consequences of this virus.

It will remain advisory for patients to wear a face covering in the surgery.

Prescription requests

We are asking all patients who are able to order their repeat prescriptions via the NHS App or SystmOnline. You can self verify for the NHS App and they have a dedicated support team to get you set up. If you would like to set up a SystmOnline account to order prescriptions please call us on 0115 925 4566 (please note you will need to visit the surgery with a form of Photo ID to complete online registration).

Our reception team are trained in Signposting!

We have a range of healthcare professionals who can see patients for same day/emergency and routine problems as well as telephone consultations for those who may not need to be seen in face to face. As such our receptionists have been trained to signpost patients to the most appropriate clinician - To do this we will be asking every patient requesting an appointment what the nature of their problem is. We are not and will not stop you from seeing a GP but will prioritise your problem and highlight where you can be seen quicker by a more appropriate clinician.
