In the past few decades, the world has made great strides forward in LGBTQ+ acceptance and equality. We at Bagerswood and Forest Surgery aim to be as understanding and inclusive as possible.
There are several local community groups and national organisations who offer help, support and social events throughout the year.

Celebrations as ‘Outstanding’ maternity services open in Bordon
Expectant and new mothers in and around Bordon now have access to ‘Outstanding’ maternity services on their doorstep, with the opening of a Maternity Hub run by Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust.
MP for East Hampshire, Damian Hinds, officially opened the hub, which is a new build co-located with Badgerswood Surgery on Mill Lane in Headley.

The space, which boasts three additional rooms for use by the expanded midwifery team, allows local women to access the Care Quality Commission (CQC) rated ‘Outstanding’ Maternity Services of Royal Surrey in Guildford, while staying closer to home.
The Maternity Hub will host an infant feeding support clinic and hopes to introduce antenatal classes in the future. It will follow the ‘continuity of carer’ model, meaning women will receive support from the same team of midwives throughout their pregnancy journey.
Women who attend Badgerswood Surgery as well as those living in Bordon, Liphook, Liss, Petersfield, Grayshott and Alton can choose to be referred to the hub, saving them travel time and the stress of a long journey in their pregnancy.
MP for East Hampshire, Damian Hinds attended the opening, meeting the hub’s midwives and local women who will benefit from the service.
Royal Surrey County Hospital’s maternity unit delivers and cares for around 3,000 babies per year. An exemplar of maternity care, the unit received a UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative Gold Award in May 2022 in recognition of its outstanding work in the support of infant-feeding and parent infant relationships.
Louise Stead, Chief Executive of NHS Foundation Trust said:
“We’re excited and proud to open our fifth Maternity Hub, supporting women on their pregnancy journey closer to home. This is a model where women will really get to know, and feel supported by their midwives. This is valuable for everyone, but particularly for women from vulnerable backgrounds or with mental health needs.”
Dr Anthony Leung, the surgery lead, decided to expand the premises after identifying the need for additional services for the increasing local population. He has worked closely in collaboration with Royal Surrey to make his vision come to life.
While the Maternity Hub has officially opened the doors to its new premises, it will begin offering its full services, such as the continuity of carer model for expectant mothers early in 2023

Last week, Dr. Anthony Leung, partner of Badgerswood Surgery, met up with local MP Damian Hinds to discuss the healthcare enhancements planned for Bordon in the near future and what the local community can expect from these developments.
Recognising the hard work of all NHS staff through the pandemic
Damian recognised the huge part played by the NHS throughout the COVID-19 pandemic and praised Badgerswood and Forest Surgery for their efforts over the last 2 years, particularly in relation to implementing the vaccination programme throughout Bordon, positively impacting the local community.
Celebrating the upcoming Badgerswood Maternity Hub
Thinking ahead to the future, Damian and Anthony discussed the development of the Bordon Health Hub as well as the Badgerswood Maternity Hub, which is currently under construction on our Mill Lane, Headley site. Once completed, the innovative Maternity Hub will be open 365 days a year and staffed with midwives from the Royal Surrey Hospital, Guildford, providing midwifery services to our local community.
With Bordon’s expansion continuing apace, it is becoming a hotspot for young couples looking to start families of their own, so the development of the Maternity Hub is perfectly timed and placed to meet this demand. The Maternity Hub aims to provide an easily accessible clinic, both in terms of location and opening times, for the local area, meaning couples don’t have to travel far from home to access the midwifery services they need.
Great to have the support of our local MP
We’re so pleased to have local MP Damian Hinds’ support with our development plans for the healthcare services in Bordon.
Here is what Damian had to say about the visit; “It was great to be back at Badgerswood and hear about the latest developments. The surgery and Dr Leung are always at the forefront of innovation for patients. I was especially pleased to hear about the progress of the maternity services hub project.
This will be a fantastic new facility for the area.”We look forward to welcoming him to the grand opening of the Maternity Hub later in 2022.
Local Councillor grant funds new equipment for Badgerswood Surgery

Badgerswood Surgery is pleased to have a new piece of kit thanks to a local fundraising group and a grant from Councillor Richard Millard. Alongside the Forest Surgery, we used the money to buy a dermatoscope – a portable device used to examine skin complaints.

We were able to make this purchase thanks to a £500 grant from Councillor Millard, Leader of East Hampshire District Council and a local member for Headley. He was approached for support by the Patient Participation Group (PPG) which raises money to buy medical equipment for the surgeries. Over the years the PPG has raised more than £28,000, including through grants from EHDC, donations and events.
Celebrating another innovation at Badgerswood and Forest Surgeries
Dr Helen Sherrell received the cheque from Yvonne Parker Smith, chairman of the PPG, and members of the group. Yvonne said: "Forest Surgery has been the hub for COVID vaccinations and has carried this out wonderfully well. “We are lucky to have such wonderful surgeries in Bordon and Headley and we try to raise funds for equipment, which is not funded by the NHS, which benefits the patients."
Councillor Richard Millard said: “I was happy to use some of my councillor grant to pay for this fabulous piece of kit. “It will really help the doctors in their work and will be a great help to patients who might otherwise have had to go to hospital to get minor skin blemishes examined properly. “Well done to the PPG for their continued support of our surgeries. They do incredible work alongside the local doctors and NHS professionals to help keep our residents safe and healthy.”
Need a COVID-19 vaccine status letter to travel?
Badgerswood and Forest Surgery is not able to provide you with a letter that shows your COVID-19 vaccination status.
From 17 May 2021, people in England who have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 can demonstrate their vaccination status for international travel. A full course is currently two doses of any approved vaccine. Vaccine status will be available from:
the NHS App which you can download from app stores
the NHS website
It may take more than a week for your identity to be checked and verified so you can use these services.
If you cannot access these online services, and you have had 2 vaccines, you can request a paper letter from the NHS by calling 119.
Only call 119 if you had your second dose more than 5 working days ago. It may take 7 working days for the letter to arrive.
When you're planning your travel, check the latest information on demonstrating your COVID-19 status when travelling abroad on the gov.uk website. Make sure there is time to get proof of your vaccination status before you leave.
Bordon Vaccination Hub gets its own "Shot in the Arm" from local Masons
A specialist Aviation Masonic Lodge, which meets at Bordon Masonic Centre, has contributed towards the cost of a new machine that will be used by patients of Forest Surgery in Bordon and Badgerswood Surgery in Headley.
The Samuel Cody Aviation Lodge is named after the 1st person to fly in the UK in September 1908 at Farnborough. The current Worshipful Master, Dave Dennis, and the Lodge Charity Steward, Nigel Wilson, accompanied by Lodge member Ted Wood, who is a Bordon resident and a member of the Patient Participation Group (PPG), presented a cheque for £250 to the PPG which was received by Dr Laura Clark on behalf of the Practice and Yvonne Parker- Smith, Chairman of the PPG.
The Lodge is the newest, being consecrated in March 2018, to meet at Bordon Masonic Centre where there are now 7 lodges meeting in the building behind Tesco’s, which is also a wedding centre under the ‘Farminer Hall’ name. The Masonic Centre was used by the Practice last year for flu inoculations.
The £250 will assist to pay for a new Dopplex Ability machine, costing over £2.5K, that is both a specialist heart evaluator and is also used to photograph possible skin cancers for evaluation at Southampton or Portsmouth Hospitals. This follows a cheque for £100 from Cherry Tree Lodge.
The cheque presentation took place at the Forest Surgery on Wednesday 14th April and under COVID rules had to take place outside as the surgery was busy all day with COVID vaccinations. By April 16th the team of vaccinators at Forest Surgery had inoculated over 11,000 patients – some having travelled from as far afield as Portsmouth.

Face Coverings
It was announced yesterday (14.07.20) that from July 24th 2020 everyone is required to wear a face covering when entering a shop or business.
This is in addition to wearing one on Public Transport which has been mandatory for some time now.

The ICO recognises the unprecedented challenges the NHS and other health professionals are facing during the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

This could (amongst other measures) consist of either treating you or a member of your family and enable us and other healthcare organisations to monitor the disease, assess risk and manage the spread of the disease.
Please be assured that we will only share information and health data that is necessary to meet yours and public healthcare needs.
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has also stated that these measures are temporary and will expire on 30th September 2020 unless a further extension is required. Any further extension will be will be provided in writing and we will communicate the same to you.

Local GP practices, Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust and South Eastern Hampshire CCG are working together to improve NHS services in your area.
Local people have told us that they want to see GPs and other health and social care staff working more closely together. They would also like to be able to access urgent GP appointments more easily, and to have the choice of convenient alternatives such as telephone and online consultations. Local people would also like IT services to be used more effectively so that their patient record is available to all of the professionals caring for them.
