CHANGES TO COIL GUIDELINES

Do you have a coil?

Did you know the national clinical guidelines for coils have recently changed (April 2023)? The new guidelines include:

  • A copper coils fitted after the age of 40 years can now be used until the age of 55 years.
  • Hormonal (Mirena) coils can be used for 6 years now rather than 5 (if not being used as part of HRT) and if they are fitted after the age of 45 years you can keep the same coil until the age of 55 years.

Want to know more?-- please contact the surgery or have a look at the new guidelines available at:

You can still have your coil changed as normal but if you wish to follow the new guidelines then please let us know so we can update our records.

SERIOUS PRESSURES ACROSS THE NHS SYSTEM

All health and care services across Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire are extremely busy. If you contact NHS 111 or 999, you may face a longer wait than usual – please bear with us.

Please only use 999 for the most urgent, life threatening emergencies. This means services can get to the sickest people first.

Please be prepared to self-care for very minor conditions by stocking up on home medicine essentials – paracetamol or aspirin, antihistamines for allergic reactions, indigestion remedies and a basic first aid kit for example. There is online advice on a range of common winter illnesses from local pharmacists on the ICB website.

If you feel you need advice for minor illness, please use your local community pharmacist. They can provide advice on a range of minor illnesses as well as repeat medication, contraception and sexual health.

Please use Minor Injuries Units or the Urgent Treatment Centre for less serious injuries such as cuts and grazes, sprains and strains and trips and falls. Services are open in Yate, South Bristol and Clevedon.

If you do have a loved one in hospital who is well enough to leave you may be asked to help by bringing them home from hospital. This will make a significant difference and free up a bed for someone most in need of it.

More information about pressure on services and industrial action is available on the ICB website.

GP Patient Survey results 2023 - WELLINGTON ROAD FAMILY PRACTICE HAS BEEN RATED ONE OF THE TOP  PRACTICES IN SOUTH GLOUCESTERSHIRE

Wellington Road Family Practice has been rated as one of the top  practices for the SEVENTH consecutive year in South Gloucestershire.

Every year a GP Practice patient survey is carried out. The results of the 2023 survey have just been published. Wellington Road Family Practice has scored higher than average in every area surveyed. 84% of Wellington Road Family Practice patients who responded to the survey, described their overall experience of Wellington Road as good; the national average overall experience was 71%. Our receptionist scored an amazing 92% for their helpfulness and 88% of patients said that they found their experience of getting through to the practice by telephone good compared to a national average of 50%

GP Practices are judged on access to your GP service, making an appointment, your experience of your most recent appointment, your health as well as your overall experience. To achieve these excellent results for the sixth year running is outstanding, encouraging and a real boost to morale, especially as we have experienced yet another very difficult year.

Our aim is always to provide high quality, personalised care and we are delighted that the response from our patients yet again is so positive.

A very big THANK YOU on behalf of the whole team to all our patients who took the time to respond to the survey.

From April 2021 the doctors listed below are the regular doctors that are working as part of the team.

  • Dr Brynn Bird
  • Dr Aisha Davies
  • Dr Alex Marsh
  • Dr Joanna Hunt- Contraception services only
