Call First – Appointment System
New GP Appointment System
Developing an appointment system that meets all patients’ needs, allows rapid access and promotes continuity of care is a continual challenge for us. We also have to comply with continuing Covid-19 guidance on infection control which limits the number of people we can have in the waiting room and try to meet an ever increase demand for healthcare. Our aim is to provide timely access to care with the most appropriate person and promote continuity of care as we know this is best for patients and clinicians. If you phone to request an appointment you will be asked about the reason for the appointment to enable our receptionists to book an appointment with the most appropriate person or direct you to appropriate alternative care such as a community pharmacist.

Same Day Appointments
The majority of the appointment in the new system are same day appointments as we want to encourage people to call on the day they wish or need to be seen. There are a small number of appointments available to be booked in advance but these are limited.
We will try to offer you an appointment with your usual GP or the GP you have been seeing for an on-going problem, or alternatively that GP’s registrar, if they are available that day. If they are not available that day we will ask you to phone back the next day they are available unless it is an urgent problem that can’t wait. If a GP needs to arrange a follow up appointment they will normally book that with you at the end of your consultation. If you have an urgent medical problem that can’t wait and you need to be assessed that day you will always be given an urgent phone appointment with an available GP.
Telephone First
We are continuing with a telephone first appointment system as we know that many problems can be safely managed over the phone or via a video consultation (you can request a video consultation via a mobile phone). If after speaking to you the doctor feels you need to be seen face to face they will organise that. This is also vital to limit the number of people visiting the practice for infection control as we continue in a global pandemic.
On-line Booking
We encourage everyone to sign up to on-line access as this enables you to book appointments on-line, order repeat prescriptions and see you own GP health record. The limited number of pre-bookable telephone appointments and all the same-day telephone appointments are available to book on-line. The same day appointments are available to book from 7am each morning. Click here to access the online appointment booking system
