Friends and Family Test

Would you recommend us to your Friends & Family? 

The Friends and Family Test (FFT) is an important feedback tool that supports the fundamental principle that people who use NHS services should have the opportunity to provide feedback on their experience.

Launched in April 2013, the FFT question has been asked in all NHS inpatient and A&E departments across England and, since October 2013, all providers of NHS funded maternity services. In its first year, more than 2 million individual responses were given.

From 1 December 2014, the FFT will be available in GP practices, from January 2015 in mental health and community services and from 1 April 2015, it will be expanded to NHS dental practices, ambulance services, patient transport services, acute hospitals outpatients and day cases.

The feedback gathered through the FFT is being used in NHS organisations across the country to stimulate local improvement and empower staff to carry out the sorts of changes that make a real difference to patients and their care.

While the results will not be statistically comparable against other organisations because of the various data collection methods, FFT will continue to provide a broad measure of patient experience that can be used alongside other data to inform service improvement and patient choice. 

Friends & Family Test at Cuckfield Medcial Practice and The Vale Surgery 

How does it work? 

When you visit Cuckfield Medical Practice or The Vale Surgery for care or treatment, you will be sent an SMS message (text) to your mobile phone from the Practice. This SMS will provide you with information on how to give your feedback to us by answering 3 simple questions about your experience:

  • Were you happy with your clinical consultation / patient experience with us today? 
  • Who did you see /speak to today?
  • How likely are you to recommend our GP practice to friends and family if they needed similar care or  treatment?

There is also the option for you to add more information if you wish to, but this is not compulsory. 

Your response is anonymous and you will be able access the questions via a link from your mobile phone, meaning you can tell us about your experience when it is convenient for you. 

If you are unable to answer the questions, a friend or family member is welcome to respond on your behalf. The Friends and Family Test results will be published on our website.

How will the results be used? 

The information will give us invaluable feedback on what you think of the care and treatment you have received, which along with existing ways of gathering feedback, will help the surgery to make improvements for patients. 

The Friends and Family Test has already been successfully rolled out in hospitals across the country and is proving to be valuable in obtaining patient experiences.
