WELCOME TO UPTON SURGERY!

We want to thank all our patients for their continued support over the course of the pandemic. We’re aware of recent media coverage around GP access—but we’re grateful for the many comments posted by patients which supported their local practices.

We’ve remained open throughout the pandemic, with as many as half of our appointments delivered face-to-face even during national lockdowns, with more being added as our staff resources allow.

We’re also continuing to deliver additional services such as support to local care homes, the at-home treatment of patients dealing with the after-effects of coronavirus (both immediately after they leave hospital, and those with Long Covid) and of course, the vaccination programme, which has been delivered largely by GPs and practice teams, both in their own surgeries and at mass vaccination centres.

Like the rest of the NHS, we’re still facing incredible demand for our services, and while we’ll do our best to provide face-to-face appointments whenever we can, we do still need to prioritise those with an urgent clinical need first.

You can help us to help you by:

Using remote consultations. While in some cases face-to-face appointments are necessary, patients who speak to us on the phone or by video consultation help us to protect our most vulnerable patients. This winter, with coronavirus, flu, and other seasonal illnesses doing the rounds, it helps us if everyone can do their bit by choosing a remote consultation where they can.

Allowing us to make the most of your appointment. We’ve invested in online consultation platforms which ask you more about your symptoms, and our reception and triage teams are also empowered to use these when speaking to you, so we can use your appointment time most effectively. They’re highly trained to understand which members of our teams are best placed to support you—so they may suggest you see someone who isn’t a GP (such as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner) who can best deal with the symptoms you’ve described.

Getting vaccinated. If you haven’t yet had your coronavirus vaccination, it’s not too late to do so—and by getting your jab, you’re helping us to protect our local community. If you’re eligible for a flu jab, you should also make sure to get yours when it’s offered to you—boosting your immunity and helping you stay well this winter.

Repeat prescriptions

If you have a repeat prescription that you usually request at your GP surgery or pharmacy, you can do this online.

You can order repeat prescriptions:

  • calling the dispensary line on 01684 592 696 (option 2) on Monday-Friday between 08:30-10:30am.

  • using online services or apps linked to your GP surgery

When you order your prescription, order it at the same time and in the same amount you usually would. Do not order more than you need as this may mean someone else will be unable to get their medicine.

"General Practice Data for Planning and Research" (GPDPR)

You may have read in the press about "General Practice Data for Planning and Research" (GPDPR). This is a new way that NHS Digital will collect data from the GP record to help plan for future NHS healthcare. The new way of collecting patients data reduces the amount of work GP practices have to share the information.

Any data collected will be pseudonymised (meaning it can't be identified with an individual).
There are two types of opt out to consider.
TYPE 1 - this stops any data going from the practice to NHS Digital.
NATIONAL DATA - this will allow the data to be shared with NHS Digital, but stops any data going further than that.
Remember in both instances, the data isn't identifiable to you.
To opt out of Type 1: complete the form here  https://nhs-prod.global.ssl.fastly.net/binaries/content/assets/website-assets/data-and-information/data-collections/general-practice-data-for-planning-and-research/type-1-opt-out-form.docx  and return it to us (by email or in hard copy). We will then add the information to your medical record.
To opt out of National Data, visit https://www.nhs.uk/your-nhs-data-matters/manage-your-choice/  or use the NHS App.
For information on how we share data, please see Data Policy on our website https://www.uptondoctors.co.uk/info.aspx?p=20

Healthier You

We're excited to announce that we are officially accredited as an Armed Forces Veteran Friendly GP Practice!

A veteran is someone who has served in the British Armed Forces (Regular or Reserve) for at least one day. Veterans also include any member of the Merchant Marine who has served in a war zone. This includes crew from convoys in World War 2 and more recently in the Falklands conflict and Gulf Wars.

Being accredited by the Royal College of General Practitioners means that a practice can better identify and treat veterans, refer them, where appropriate, to dedicated NHS services (such as the Veterans’ Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison service (TILS), the Veterans’ Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS) and the Veterans Trauma Network) and capture better data to improve future health provision. It also means that the NHS is better able to meet the health commitments of the Armed Forces Covenant, which says the Armed Forces community, including veterans, should face no disadvantage in accessing health services and should receive priority care for military attributable conditions, subject to clinical need.

About 18,000 service people move back into civilian life every year and whilst most of these individuals have similar levels of health to the general population, around 2,000 leave on medical grounds. The top reasons for medical discharge are for issues relating to back, knees, mental health and hearing.

If you are a veteran please let us know!

Armed Forces Veteran Friendly GP Practice

NHS England and NHS Improvement has launched a survey to find out people’s views and experiences of veterans mental and physical health services. The information gathered will be used to help inform the development and provision of these services in the future. As part of this exercise, we would particularly like to hear people’s views and experiences of Op COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service, as well as the Veterans Trauma Network (VTN), which is for Service-related physical health conditions.

Op COURAGE: The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service is the collective name for the:
• Veterans Mental Health Transition, Intervention and Liaison Service (TILS).
• Veterans Mental Health Complex Treatment Service (CTS).
• Veterans Mental Health High Intensity Service (HIS).

BEWARE OF SCAMMERS

There is heightened coverage around the recent Coronavirus outbreak around the world, which is now severely impacting on the UK and the NHS.

Unfortunately fraudsters are targeting these circumstances to take advantage of public fear and concern

We have been made aware that our patients are receiving phone calls, texts and letters from fraudsters. They will try and obtain your personal details and in particular your NHS number.

Scammers are sophisticated, opportunistic and will try many ways to get the information they want. They often target the vulnerable.

If you are suspicious, do not give any details over the phone, hang up and then ring your GP Practice to confirm.

WE ARE HAPPY TO ASSIST YOU

If you require any of our information to be provided in an alternative format, or need help with communicating, please let us know.

We can provide large print or easy read materials, interpreting services, Deaf Direct and Braille services, as required.
